Congratulations Stacey & Dan!

I was in my friend Stacey's wedding this weekend and it was quite an event - planned to every last beautiful detail. Stacey and I have known each other since college, so its really special that we've remained friends all this time. Connor stayed with his Grammy for the weekend (quite happily) and Brian and I enjoyed a weekend on our own. It was a real treat being able to sleep past 6am for 2 days in a row!

Family Sunday

We've been busy, busy, busy around here. I took my PhD candidacy exam last Wed (something I've been prepping for for months), and next week I start back to classes (as student and as teacher), so we tried to spend as much family time together as possible this weekend. This morning we went to our favorite park for playtime in the creek as well as some typical playground activities.

Nothing says summer like corn on the cob

We decided to have a family cookout to celebrate a beautiful summer day together. I tried to get Connor to help me with shucking the corn, but as soon as he got a hold of an ear he just wanted to eat it. He did have several bites of the raw stuff and loved it, so as you can imagine, he devoured it when it was cooked. Another "first" here for us - toddler eating corn off the cob!

How to talk to pigs... and some other farm discoveries

There was a wonderful event here today - a bunch of farms participated in local foods week by hosting tours of their fields and facilities. We only made it to 2 of the many locations, but we all had a great time. Connor got to see sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and the hit of the day - pigs. Luckily they were very friendly pigs, and Connor couldn't get enough of them. One pig came over to him as he hung on the fence watching, and stuck his snout right through. Connor responded by hunkering down and proceeding to snort at him. It was absolutely hysterical. We're already looking forward to the tours next year!

Camping In

Considering Connor's love of the sheet tent, I was thrilled to find a pop-up tent for him that he can use outside or inside. It is such a cool little invention - no assembly, it just completely pops up into place instantly and collapses just as easily to store in a bag. Not surprisingly he loved it, but it was a surprise that Ty wanted to be in there right along with him. They are both having a blast in there together.

Fort Connor

Its been a rough week for all of us. First, Connor started last Monday going to daycare 3 mornings a week. He is, understand- ably, having trouble with the transition (as are his parents), but his teachers are wonderful and are giving him the extra attention he needs right now. On top of that stress, though, he ended up coming down with infections in both ears. Thursday he spiked a fever of 104.5 and we were in the ER with him. He got some antibiotics and we've been trying to keep him comfortable since then. Our normally cheerful boy has been pretty darn miserable, grouchy, whiny, and all the things you would expect when both of your ears hurt you and you have a cold on top of it all. Today I was looking for a way to distract him from all of that and made him a "fort" out of a sheet. It was a HUGE hit! He hung out in there with his milk, blankie, and toys for quite a while - loving every minute of it. Hopefully he will be feeling much better soon - poor kiddo!
