Milk is good, but cereal is better!

Connor had his first solid food this weekend - very thin rice cereal. He wasn't sure about the first few bites, but once he got those down he soon decided that cereal is a good thing - and didn't hesitate to tell us all about it. Here's part of his rave review.

Connor was lucky enough to be born with a big brother already at home. I'm sure they will be best friends in the years to come. Note: No infants were harmed in the making of this video! :)

4 months and "perfect"

Connor had his 4 month wellness visit yesterday, and aside from the 3 shots it was terrific. Here are his stats:

Height: 26" (83rd percentile)
Weight: 16lb 13oz (82nd percentile)
Head: 44cm (93rd percentile)

Yes, he's a big boy! But as the doctor said, he's "perfectly proportioned". And apparently very strong, because she kept commenting on that throughout the visit. Unfortunately he hasn't been feeling very well since getting the immunizations - running a slight fever and not sleeping well. Hopefully he will be back to his cheerful self tomorrow. Below is a picture taken on his 4 month "birthday". We think he's just about the most perfect boy ever (but of course we're a little biased).

Special guests

This weekend we had some very special visitors - Rebecca & Phil with daughter Madison, and Sara with son Logan. Rebecca and Sara are friends of mine from college and we're now all mommies, which is such a special experience to be sharing in our lives. It was really interesting to watch Madi (who is 3 months older than Connor) to see some of the things he will be doing in a few months, and Logan (who is 18 months older) to see what life will be like next year. In either case, it appears we better get ready for a kiddo on the move!

Visit from Peru

A dear friend of Brian's family, Gloria Escobar, is visiting the U.S. from Peru and Brian's Mom, Jean, brought her to the house to meet Connor. It was a lot of fun for all of us, but especially for Connor who thought that hearing Gloria speaking Spanish was quite entertaining - or maybe it was just her excitement to see him and her experienced "baby skills", regardless of the language! Brian and I had the opportunity to visit Gloria's home in Cusco, Peru during a vacation there in 2006 as well as the facility, Manos Juntas, that she established to empower women by supporting them in making and selling various handicrafts, and offering courses in areas such as tailoring, nutrition, self-esteem, and domestic violence support. Arts Fest

It was Connor's first Arts Fest - a definite State College tradition. We spent 3 hours downtown checking out the art and the food, and even made a stop at Old Main to visit my Dad (AKA Connor's Poppy) at work. It was a big day for Connor and he handled it well, even in the heat. Probably the most exciting thing for me was that he let me carry him in a sling almost the whole time. This is a new thing for us. He never used to want me to carry him that way, only Brian. At last year's Arts Fest I was just 1 month pregnant and bought this beautiful sling from a local vendor with visions of toting my new baby around in it. Until now Connor would cry every time we put him in it, so it was a real treat for me to be able to use the sling at this year's Arts Fest and have him enjoy it.

Back-to-side

In the last week Connor has started rolling from his back to his left side (yep, just the left so far). He started doing it while he was sleeping, and now almost always sleeps on his side. But as of this weekend he will occasionally roll to grab a toy he wants to play with (i.e. stick in his mouth and make noises around). He kicks both legs way up in the air and then lets them fall to his side, and the rest of his body follows. I guess that's step one toward rolling over!
